Volunteer with us

Building community is sometimes completely literal for us. We build skills and relationships as we care for all the places where community happens. We are always excited to connect with new community members. Volunteering with us means forming a deep relationship with the current staff and community members.

Volunteer Help We Need:

  • Translation and interpretation. We house individuals who are new to America or don’t speak English as their first language. Do you speak a second language? Let us know

  • Maintenance. With so many houses that are old we need to do a lot of repairs and renovations. Let us know if you have a special skill.

  • Cooking. We host a community liturgy and dinner every week and love to have new cooks.

Simply send us an email with your name, contact information and what you are interested in doing.

Please note, as a small organization we cannot accept all volunteers and work only with a small number of people at a given season

Volunteer Groups

We love hosting volunteer groups! This is a great opportunity to learn about local issues in Tacoma with a justice and faith lens.

Groups we have hosted in the past:

Gonzaga University Spring Break Immersion, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Service Learning Immersion, St Martins University, Janes Fellowship visitors and local church youth groups.

we have hosted groups for 1 day up too several overnights.

What to expect from a volunteer day:

Groups of 5-12 are best for us, along with at least 5 hours of work and conversation time together.

We want to do some physical work such as yard word, re-decorating a transitional room, house organizing as well as learning together. We value conversation and relationship over the end product of labor. We want to share about the history of our place, what it means to live along side individuals who are in transition and how your group might grow in their own justice/faith journey.

Along with the joys of hosting a group, learning together and working together it takes a lot of planning on our part. Depending on how long you are with us and how big your group is we might ask for a financial donation to support your time with us.

Send us an email to connect about your group working with us.
